Feminism is “the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.” There are many misconceptions on what feminism actually is, people let stereotypes inform their view on this subject, instead of educating themselves. Although we have made great strides in the fight for equality, we are nowhere near finished.
On average, women that work full time are paid 21% less than men, even with the same education. We need to be vocal about the fact that women should and deserve to be paid just as much as men when they are bringing the same experience and work ethic to the job at hand.
Women deserve equal rights not because they are better than men, but simply because they are human. Women are still perceived as weak and incapable because of their gender. There is still a belief that the only purpose for women is a wife and mother. Feminism is about having the right to be whoever you want to be. Women are sometimes seen as, “bossy” or “annoying” when trying to stand up for what they believe in. We need to encourage strong female role models, and teach no matter what your gender, race, background, etc., you should always speak up about what you believe in.
It needs to be known that all feminism is, is the belief that everyone, no matter your gender, race or background deserve to be treated equally.
