New Hope Academy held its annual SummerFest at its Yardley campus on Thursday, August 6, 2015. SummerFest traditionally features the students and staff who are involved in the Extended School Year (ESY) program. This year’s theme was “Blues and Reggae” and the performers did not disappoint! The show opened with the multi-talented Taylor, who not only sang Louis’ Armstrong’s classic “What a Wonderful World,” but played along on his ukulele. Next was Grace’s soulful rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” Then came Charles, who shone with “The Wind Cries Mary,” by Jimi Hendrix. Next was Amanda and Caitlynn, who cleverly revamped My Chemical Romance’s “Teenagers.” Following was Jenna who performed “To Be Written“, an original song she wrote. Then came Miranda, who skillfully performed “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on the piano. Finally was Trey’s epic performance of Bon Jovi’s “Wanted: Dead or Alive.” The incomparable Music Department lent support throughout, accompanying some of the student performers and also performing their own musical numbers, including Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man” and Stevie Ray Vaughn’s classic “Pride and Joy.” Some of NHA’s teachers, including Tim Simmons, Jimmy Perry, and Mark Beuerle, helped out, too, proving how truly irreplaceable they are! SummerFest would not have been possible without NHA President Kathleen Rosso-Gana, who had “front row seats” for the show. It was memorable day, both for the performers and the audience!
