In order to prepare seniors for college, NHA makes an annual trip to visit Bucks County Community College. This trip gives seniors a chance to see what options are available to them and educate them on college life. Bucks is a non-residential community college, but the campus itself is like any other university. There are three campus locations around Bucks County: the main campus is in Newtown, Upper Bucks location in Perkasie, and Lower Bucks in Bristol.
NHA seniors gathered in the Allied Health building for a presentation about Bucks around 10 a.m. The presentation showed the opportunities and advantages of attending a community college. Bucks offers a wide range of courses from radiography in the Health department to glassblowing in the Arts and Communication department.
Unlike most universities, community college is an affordable option for seniors to consider. Whilst Bucks only provides a two-year degree, the transferring of credits from community college to a four-year college can be quite simple. If a student has a university in mind to attend after Bucks, they can schedule their classes to be credits that university is willing to transfer.
Once the introduction to Bucks concluded, it was time for the tour of the campus. The first stop of the tour was the arts buildings: one building was centered around fine arts, while the other pertained to 3D art. The most exquisite building on the plot was Tyler Hall. Bucks is a beautiful campus. It was built on a property with a large mansion that was once owned by George and Stella Tyler. The Gateway Center was the final stop of the tour, which held the school library and fitness center within. At 11:30 a.m., the Bucks tour came to an end, and seniors headed out for lunch before returning back to school.
To some, this school trip may have seemed redundant because they already have a college they want to attend, but it advises seniors on what to expect. Graduation is quickly approaching and with the future being uncertain, there’s going to be stress amongst seniors. Therefore, visiting a community college like Bucks can give a hopeful outlook on what’s to come for this year’s graduating class.
